An art teacher came out of retirement to show children at Holm Cultram Abbey CE School the keys to success.
Bill Asbury, 73, of Skinburness, spent three weeks decorating an outside wall at the Abbeytown school with a colourful mural illustrating their philosophy of You Can Do It.
He chose 14 pupils to work with, aged 10 and 11.
Bill said: “We used acrylics to paint their school in the centre, with the five key areas of success radiating out like beams of light.
“It was the worst pebbledash wall I’ve ever had to work on – I had to really put their philosophy into practice!
“I was really impressed with how this came across in the children. They also showed a lot of artistic talent and we had great fun.”
The five keys are: persistence, organisation, emotional resilience, confidence and getting along.
On the insistence of the children, the mural also features the town’s abbey.
Bill’s artwork can also currently be seen in Silloth’s shop windows.
