HOMEGROWN produce and musical talent took centre stage in Silloth at the weekend.
The second annual Greenfest on Silloth Green featured locally produced food and drink, crafts, stalls and music.
The weekend’s grey skies kept some at home, but visitors from Cumbria and further afield braved the showers and flocked to the town’s Victorian green to make the most of the fun. A local produce market saw a host of local producers display wares including meats from Spotted Meats at Roweltown, cheeses from Wardhall Dairy at Ewe Close Farm near Wigton and Davison’s ice cream from Silloth. Solway shrimps were available to sample and bread making demonstrations drew the onlookers.
Jam and chutney maker, Pauline Stagg, of Pauline’s Pantry, Edderside, near Allonby, said: “We’ve been coming since this first started. It’s more of a hobby and a pastime for me, but we have been excited about coming back to this event – it’s a great idea and it’s good to get smaller producers together.”
Silloth’s Cock Robin Cider was on hand to quench visitor’s thirsts, joined by local brewery, Derwent Brewery Ales.
Other attractions included craft stalls, plant displays, wood carving and jewellery-making demonstrations. A traditional Victorian seaside funfair with rides, swings and games kept the youngsters entertained and local bands included AWOL, from Maryport, and Workington’s Lights Out.
