Joanne Lesley Carr & Diarmuid Currid

JOANNE Lesley Carr, 34, originally from Carlisle, a teacher in the School of Nursing at The University of Manchester, and Diarmuid Currid, 33, a veterinary surgeon, live in Didsbury, Manchester.

HOW THEY MET: On a 999 night iIn the Continental club in Manchester in 1998.

PROPOSAL: While on a weekend away in Amsterdam in 2004.

VENUE: Mary of the Immaculate, Grange, County Sligo, for 110 guests on July 14, 2007.

THEME: Ivory and lilac.

BRIDE’S OUTFIT: An ivory Sassi Holford dress, a Thai silk ivory veil with a diamante tiara and matching jewellery.

GROOMSMEN: Peter Folan and Mark Heffernan were best men. Joseph and Ronan Currid were groomsmen. They wore black pin-striped suits with lilac waistcoats and cravats from EJ’s Suit Hire.

BRIDESMAIDS: The bride’s sister, Stacey Carr, was chief bridesmaid. The bride’s school friends, Annabelle Hall and Jayne Johnstone, were bridesmaids. They wore lilac Dessy dresses with lilac and silver hair pieces made by Annabelle Hall. Orlaith McDowell was the flower girl and wore an ivory dress.

FLOWERS: Hand-tied bouquet of lilac, blue and cream lisianthus, purple freesias and cream roses.

TRANSPORT: Cream Beauford from Prestige Limo Hire, County Sligo.

RECEPTION: Champagne and canapé reception at Markree Castle, Collooney, County Sligo, for 110 guests. Followed by a three- course wedding breakfast with a hot buffet served at midnight.

TABLE SETTINGS: Lilac place cards attached to wine glasses with mini pegs. Tall vases with blue and lilac lisianthus. Candles and mini tea lights, petals and church candles were placed on each stair at the entrance to the castle.

FAVOURS: Plastic cones filled with an assortment of the bride’s favourite penny sweets tied with lilac ribbon.

CAKE: A three-tiered personalised cake made by Margaret Burnham, of Hutton Roof, Penrith.

FIRST DANCE: All I Want Is You by U2.

ENTERTAINMENT: A jazz band played during the reception. Superfreaks, an Irish band, and Kevin Flannery’s disco.

HONEYMOON: A driving holiday around California.
