Wayne’s eel at Maryport Sea Angling Club

MARYPORT Sea Angling Club fished a six-hour rover match in a fresh south south-west wind. Conditions were good but in angling the fish can just fail to turn up when you expect them.

Out of the 16 senior and three juniors, only Wayne Stevenson really got into any numbers with a impressive haul of 22 large eels to easily won the match.

His total was 30lb 5¼oz and Stevenson also had the heaviest fish, a 2lb eel. Second was John Flemming with two pollock for 2lb 4oz.

The winning junior was Ricky Holt with five flounder, a dab and two eel for 4lb 10¾oz. Holt also had heaviest junior fish, an eel of 1lb ¼oz .

Maryport’s next match is on Sunday along Marypot Promenade from 9am-1pm.

lWORKINGTON SAC held its latest match on Sunday, 21 anglers fishing Silloth groynes and catching flounder, plaice, sand dabs and eel.

First was Stephen George with 15 fish - eight flounder, three eels and four dab - for 9lb 8½oz. Second was Mike Laycock with four dab and three flounder for 4lb 4½oz and third Peter Watson with three flounder, two dabs and two eels for 3lb 14½oz.

Heaviest fish was caught by Ian Murphy, a flounder of 1lb 7½oz.

Lee Murphy won the juniors with 3lb 2½oz - four flounder and one eel. Second was Mathew Smith with one dab and one plaice for 1lb ¾oz, and third was D Hannon with a dab and a plaice for 13¾oz.
