Police have issued a warning to vandals who lobbed mud and stones from a footbridge onto the bonnet of a passing car.
The frightening incident happened at around 4pm last Tuesday as a 30-year-old woman was driving along the A595 towards Northside in Workington.
The woman was driving towards the Calva roundabout when the vandals struck, throwing mud and stones onto her vehicle from the old Navvies bridge.
Maryport based PC Vanessa Jackson said the woman was left shocked but unhurt.
The missile was heavy enough to leave dents in her car’s bonnet.
PC Jackson said: “The woman thinks that she saw children on the bridge which has a cycle path.
“The point is that if they’d thrown this just half a second later it would have smashed the windscreen and it could have been a very different story. It could have been a lot worse.”
Anybody who knows anything about the incident should contact PC Jackson at Maryport police station. Alternatively, phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
